Aperture Education Launches Monthly Online Workshops Focusing on Eight Key Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Competencies

The next in the “Aperture 8” series of free workshops takes place Oct. 7, 2021 and focuses on strategies to build students’ and educators’ optimistic thinking

Charlotte N.C. (Oct. 5, 2021) — Aperture Education, the leading provider of researched-backed social and emotional learning (SEL) assessments for K-12 schools, has launched the “Aperture 8” series of free monthly workshops. The series helps schools develop and implement strategies around eight social and emotional learning competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, relationship skills, goal-directed behavior, personal responsibility, decision-making, and optimistic thinking.

Each workshop provides an overview of one of the competencies, plus strategies that teachers, school counselors, and SEL coordinators can use to help students strengthen each competency. Participants collaborate to create action plans to use in their school, district, or organization. Workshops typically take place on the first Thursday of the month. Live online participation is encouraged and space is limited. The next workshop in the series takes place at 3:30 p.m. EST on Oct 7, 2021 and focuses on optimistic thinking. “Social and emotional learning is such an important topic, especially this year, so we’re providing additional resources to help teachers, counselors, and SEL staff as they implement SEL programs in their schools,” said Jessica Adamson, CEO of Aperture Education. “Our ‘Aperture 8’ workshops provide key insights and actionable strategies participants can implement in their classrooms, schools, and organizations immediately.”

The Aperture 8 competencies are derived from the resilience theory and the five competencies identified by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

The “Aperture 8” workshops are just one way Aperture Education supports educators, administrators, parents, and out-of-school time programs in promoting SEL in classrooms, homes, and after school programs. Additional resources and activities from the company include its “Inside SEL” webinar series, its free Student Success Guide and Back-to-School Guide, its SEL conference each spring, and its EdSERT professional development program for teachers, as well as several free resources for families on their student portal.
